Reiki is a healing modality that I hold very dear to my heart and one that I’ve used daily in my life for over half a decade now. I have been a strong supporter of the Network, even assisting as Canberra Network Coordinator.

I’m so grateful that I was guided to be trained by an original lineage of the unchanged teachings of Mikao Usui. I hold this sacredness with great respect and reverence.

For reference, above is an outline of the lineage history. No matter what energy healing you engage in, it’s important to enquire about and understand where the practice has come from, how the teachings have been honoured and to know and trust exactly who you’re allowing into your sacred energy space.

The Usui Reiki Network was founded in 1990 by Barbara McGregor and honours the philosophy and teachings established by Mikao Usui of Kyoto in the 1920s. The training passed to Dr Chujiro Hayashi of Tokyo, who taught and conducted a Reiki clinic until 1941. The lineage of teacher training then went to Hawayo Takata of Hawaii and her first Caucasian teachers, John and Beth Gray, in 1973.

Beth Gray introduced the teaching of Reiki to Australia in 1983. She trained Barbara McGregor in Reiki I and Reiki II in 1984. She appointed her as a Master Teacher in June 1990, after more than five years of intensive apprenticeship. Sue Lake-Harris was also trained as a Master Teacher after a five year apprenticeship with Barbara.

Sue now travels around Australia to host Reiki seminars (including Canberra) a number of times a year. I absolutely respect Sue for her honouring of this sacred healing modality and the love and care she has dedicated to this Network.
